Wetland Biodiversity Atlas

A major output of Upper Tana biodiversity assessment, mapping, knowledge sharing and management is the Wetland Atlas.

By developing a wetland biodiversity map for Upper Tana, the ecosystem health integrity can be assessed. The Centre for Biodiversity Scientist uses the Biological Condition Gradient (BCG) model to assess the status of wetland sites. Basically sites can be categorized into pristine or natural conditions, moderate or severe impacted by human activities based on status of biological conditions of species present. The Upper Tana Nairobi water fund has adopted the BCG model for tracking ecosystem condition and trends on permanent sampling sites over time. By providing this information, the project hopes to encourage change in human behavior depending on the wetlands status.
